ORLANDO, Fla.—The Otterbein University men's tennis team wrapped up a successful spring trip with a 6-3 win over Virginia Wesleyan College Friday in Orlando, Fla.

"It was great to cap off our spring break trip with the win over Virginia Wesleyan, giving us a perfect 5-0 record here," said head coach Mark Anderson. "The guys started strong, winning all three doubles matches. Then Will Willson finished his perfect trip with a convincing 6-4, 6-3 win at first singles."

Willson, a sophomore, won all ten of his matches on the week, going 5-0 in first singles and 5-0 in first doubles, teaming up with partner David Seckel, a sophomore, in four of those wins.

The Cardinals opened the trip with a 5-4 win over Bethel University (Minn.) March 16, then breezed through a 9-0 win over Onondaga Community College last Tuesday.

"Once again we had to scramble the lineup against perennial powerhouse Bethel University and the guys stepped up to the challenge," Anderson said after the match. "I am confident these matches will put the Cards in a good position to contend for the OAC championship."

Otterbein followed with wins over Colorado College, 6-3, on Wednesday and Hamilton College, 5-4, Thursday.

"This was the best match these guys have played," Anderson said following the 5-4 win over Hamilton. "For the most part, they started strong and kept it going throughout each match against a formidable opponent."

Senior Ryan Shutt was just about perfect on the week, going 9-1 over the five matches. He played to a 5-0 record at second doubles with partners senior Tyler Gibbons and sophomore Zach McDivitt, and finished 4-1 at second singles.

Junior Kendall Coffman turned in a 6-2 record, which included 4-1 in third and fourth singles and 2-1 in first and third doubles. Seckel finished 6-1, including a 2-1 record at third singles. McDivitt, in addition to three wins at second doubles, went 2-2 at fourth and fifth singles.

The Cardinals, which improved to 7-3 overall, is scheduled to open Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Saturday at crosstown-rival Capital University, beginning at 1 p.m.
