Cards Edge Capital 5-4 to Open OAC Play

BEXLEY, Ohio—The Otterbein University men's tennis team edged crosstown-rival Capital University, 5-4, to open Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Monday on the Bexley campus.

"This was a great start to our OAC league play," said head coach Mark Anderson. "The players stepped up to a strong challenge from Capital. They battled hard throughout each match whether or not they ended up winning."

With the win, Otterbein's seventh straight, the Cardinals improved to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Capital dropped to 3-6 and 0-2 in the OAC.

Will Willson, David Seckel, and Zach McDivitt each went 2-0 on the day, as the Cardinals captured two doubles and three singles matches.

Willson and Seckel teamed up to win first doubles, 8-5, while McDivitt and partner Ryan Shutt took second doubles, 8-6.

Willson, who has not lost a singles match in match play this season, won first singles, 6-3, 6-0. Seckel took third singles in three, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2, and McDivitt won fifth singles, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

Otterbein returns to the court today to face Marietta College, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
