Box Score 2 WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University baseball team won its fifth-straight contest Wednesday afternoon with a 10-0 rout over Ohio-Lancaster. The victory comes just one day after the Cardinals walked away with a 7-6 win at Wittenberg University, part of four wins in three days for the team.
Otterbein (14-6) opened a 4-1 lead after three innings Tuesday at Wittenberg, getting a 2-RBI sing from junior Sean Kettering followed by an RBI double from freshman Zach San Roman.
The Cardinals held a 6-2 lead by the middle of the sixth before the Tigers erupted for four runs in the bottom of the inning to draw even.
Otterbein quickly answered during its next at-bat, receiving an RBI-single through the left side from Billy Harkenrider. The slim margin would be all that was necessary for Ben Hamilton on the bump, who did not allow a hit in tossing the final 3.1 innings of relief. He now stands with a 4-0 record this spring.
Harkenrider finished 4 for 5 with three runs scored on the day while San Roman and Taylor Hutchison each had a pair of hits.
The Cardinals grabbed an early 1-0 lead over OU-Lancaster on Wednesday after a first-inning RBI double from Jake Simmerman, but the Bobcats hung close over the first few frames.
Otterbein would score four times in the fourth, taking advantage of a Lancaster error on a pick-off attempt before timely hits from Kettering and Simmerman helped widen the gap.
Otterbein remained in control from there, playing comfortably behind an eventual complete-game effort from sophomore Jordon Mally on the mound. Mally allowed just four hits and no walks over the nine innings of work, improving his record to 2-0.
Simmerman went 3 for 4 with three RBI while Kettering, Harkenrider and catcher Stephan Hernon all hit safely twice.
Otterbein is back in action Saturday afternoon, traveling to Baldwin Wallace University for a conference doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m.
