Box Score 2 BEREA, Ohio – Otterbein University baseball suffered a slight setback Sunday on the road, dropping a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) games at Baldwin Wallace University by scores of 13-1 and 3-0.
Both schools now sit at 14-8 overall, with BW improving to 4-2 in the league while Otterbein falls to 2-4 against conference opponents.
The Yellow Jackets easily took game one, using a workmanlike effort with at least one run in each of the first four innings to gain an early advantage. BW blew the contest open in the later stages, plating three runs in the sixth and another three in the seventh.
Senior right-fielder Thomas Linder hit 2 for 4 in the game for the Cardinals, who were charged with seven errors out in the field defensively.
Sophomore right-hander Adam Collier returned to the mound after a two-week injury absence, allowing three earned runs over six innings of work.
Baldwin Wallace starter Cory Waite would be the story of the second game, tossing a complete-game shutout while scattering just one hit. He improved to 3-0 this season as a result of the performance. Otterbein junior Taylor Ellis also gave a solid outing despite getting the loss, allowing only three earned runs over eight innings.
Hunter Handel gave BW the early lead with a two-run blast to right-center field, proving to be all the insurance Waite needed as Cardinal sophomore Tyler Kent would register the teams' only hit in the fourth inning.
Otterbein will return to action with a pair of home doubleheaders throughout next week, hosting Ohio Northern University Wednesday before a Saturday tilt with John Carroll University. Both start times are scheduled for 1 p.m. at Fishbaugh Field.
