Men's Tennis Completes Sweep Joining Women's Team at the NCAA's

MASON, Ohio—The Otterbein University men's tennis team earned the program's first-ever bid to the NCAA championships with a 5-0 victory over Baldwin Wallace University today in the final of the OAC tournament held at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason.
 
Kendall Coffman tallied the fifth and deciding point with a 6-0, 7-5 win at fourth singles, leading the Cardinals to their ninth-straight victory and resetting the school record for most wins in a season which now stands at 18. The win marked the program's third championship with previous tournament wins coming in 2002 and 1943.
 
The Cardinals opened the championship match strong, winning on all three doubles courts to take a 3-0 advantage heading into singles play.
 
Will Willson and David Seckel scored Otterbein's first point, winning first doubles, 8-6. Kendall Coffman and Tyler Gibbons followed with an 8-6 win on court three, and Zach McDivitt and Ryan Shutt closed it out with an 8-5 victory at second doubles.
 
McDivitt scored the first point in singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court five, followed by Coffman's match-clinching win on court four.
 
The tournaments get underway Wednesday with the first three rounds being played on various campus sites. The quarterfinals, semifinals, and final for each tournament are scheduled for May 19-21 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center on the campus of  Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Claremont, Calif.
