Cardinals Fall in Non-Conference Action at Case Western

Box Score

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Otterbein University baseball team dropped a non-conference road game Wednesday afternoon, walking away from Case Western Reserve University with a 5-2 loss.

The Cardinals, playing just 24 hours after beginning conference play against nationally-ranked Marietta College, fall to 12-4 on the season and are scheduled to host Case Western in a rematch Thursday at Fishbaugh Field. The Cards will then be back in action Saturday against cross-town Capital University, although the game could potentially be moved to Sunday for better weather.

Otterbein took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI-single from freshman K.C. Brown, but the host Spartans answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Case Western's Andrew Gonski launched a three-run homer in the third inning, giving his team the needed cushion to ultimately hold off Otterbein throughout.

Case added an insurance run in the sixth and held off a Cardinal rally in the ninth, where Otterbein's Peyton Ross drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the team's second run before the final push ended.

Shortstop Sean Kettering went 2 for 4 for Cardinals, who rested a handful of usual starters during the game.
