Ohio Northern Results Marietta ResultsADA, Ohio-The Otterbein University men's tennis team moved into third place in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) behind an 8-1 win at Ohio Northern University Tuesday in Ada.
The Cardinals have won two straight, including a 9-0 win at Marietta College last Wednesday, to move closer to league co-leaders Capital University and John Carroll University, who share the top spot in the OAC, each 2-0.
"During my tenure at Otterbein, Ohio Northern has routinely been at the top of the OAC standings," said Otterbein head coach Mark Anderson. "So having an 8-1 win over them was really a feat."
The Cardinals took the early lead inside the Ohio Northern Sports Center, winning all three doubles matches. The No. 1 doubles pair of Will Willson and David Seckel faced the stiffest competition, winning 8-6. Kendall Coffman and Zach McDivitt captured second doubles, 8-3, and Jacob DeVore and Kevin Adell won third doubles, 8-4.
Willson, Coffman and McDivitt, each went 2-0 at Ohio Northern. Willson won first singles, 6-1, 6-4; Coffman captured third singles, 6-2, 6-4; and McDivitt took fifth singles, 6-1, 6-0. Otterbein's other two points came from Ben Keen, a 6-2, 6-1 winner on court four, and Sam Lawless, a 7-5, 6-1 victor on court six.
At Marietta last Wednesday, Otterbein won three matches by default due to disciplinary action taken against some Marietta players, who were not allowed to play in the match. Willson was the only repeat winner for the Cardinals, taking first singles, 6-1, 6-0, and, with partner Seckel, first doubles, 8-4.
The Cardinals are scheduled to face John Carroll next, traveling to University Heights Saturday for a match at 1 p.m.
