BEXLEY, Ohio - The Otterbein University men's tennis team came up short in a 5-4 loss to cross-town rival Capital on Thursday evening before the outcome was reversed on Apr. 25 by the league office, due to improper movement of lineup positions.
The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) match lasted over five hours and spanned two locations, beginning outside at the Capital Tennis Courts where all three doubles and four singles matches were completed, before inclement weather forced the remaining two singles duels to be moved inside to the Olympic Tennis Center a short ways away in Clintonville.
Otterbein (10-7 overall) was tied at 2-2 with the Crusaders after senior
Will Willson and junior
Ben Keen claimed victory in No. 1 doubles (8-6) and freshmanÂ
Tyler Wharton contributed to the win column with the defeat of Santino DiMichaelangelo (6-1, 6-0).Â
Senior
David Seckel originally fell to Capital's Ben Buchanan in No. 2 singles (4-6, 6-2, 6-3), before the OAC office forced a forfeit for the match to reward the Cards the victory.
Senior
Zach McDivitt then fell in No. 2 doubles (9-7) and freshmen duo
Derek Krieger and
Perry Williams also dropped their match as the No. 3 (8-4). Capital went on to win three of the final five singles matches, with the closest margin of defeat for the Cards coming in junior
Ben Keen's loss in the No. 4 spot to Capital's Dale Booher (6-3, 6-0).
The other Cardinal victories came in No. 1 and No. 3 singles, as senior
Will Willson defeated C.J. Martin in swift fashion (6-1, 6-1) and McDivitt picked up a win over Beau Streety in three sets (2-6, 7-4, 6-2).
The Cardinals host Mount Union on Saturday for Senior Day and the final home regular-season match in the playing career of
