MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Cardinal men's tennis team records an 8-1 victory at Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday afternoon to wrap up the fall portion of its 2017-18 campaign.

Otterbein (2-0 overall) combines to own a 17-1 scoring margin over its two opponents this fall and now gears up for its traditional season in the spring where the team went 11-9 to finish the regular season en route to a trip to the conference tournament semifinals for the seventh-straight season.

The Cardinals opened play at MVNU with a 3-0 advantage thanks to a sweep in doubles play, the first win coming in an 8-6 victory for juniors Derek Krieger and Tyler Wharton in first doubles over Danny Mayotte and Logan Gauthier.

Freshmen Connor Radune and Jamie Price followed in the second spot with an 8-0 defeat of Zackary Dohner and Vince LoPrinzi, before sophomore Logan Sullivan and freshman Jared Deel followed up with the same margin of victory over Kevin Maurer and Eric Miller in third doubles.

Otterbein posted two complete shutouts in five of its six wins in singles competition, with Price and sophomore Riley Yost accounting for each of them in the fourth and sixth spot, respectively.

Wharton assumed the second spot for the Cards and tallied a 6-0, 6-1 win over Gauthier, while junior Juan Vera notched a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Miller in the five spot.

Kriger battled Dohner in his first set in third singles before ultimately cruising to a 6-3, 6-0 victory, while Radune suffered the lone loss of the match for the Cardinals with a 6-3, 6-2 decision in favor of Mayotte in first singles.

A total of five players for Otterbein sit undefeated in singles play through two matches, including Krieger, Price, Vera, Wharton and Yost. Radune, who has played as the Cards' No. 1 in singles this fall, is 2-3 overall including a 1-2 mark at the ITA Regionals.

All five doubles combinations have at least one win this fall as well, with the steady leadership of Krieger and Wharton leading the way with a 2-2 record between two dual-match victories and a pair of losses at the ITA's.
