ORLANDO, Fla. – The Otterbein men's tennis team split a pair of matches on its first day of competition Tuesday at the United State Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus.

The Cardinals now stand at 2-4 overall on the season after falling to Adrian, 8-1, before powering past Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), 7-2.

Otterbein will enjoy a day off from competition tomorrow before taking on Hanover and Wartburg on Thursday in its final day of play in the Sunshine State.

Match One vs. Adrian

The Cardinals found themselves down 2-1 after doubles play, with what proved to be the lone victory of the match coming in second-doubles thanks to sophomores Derek Krieger and Tyler Wharton topping the Bulldogs' Jeff Sophiea and Nathan Waterbury (8-3).

Freshman Logan Sullivan and sophomore Juan Vera recorded the next closest margin in third-doubles, falling to Nolan Duda and Mitchell Combs (8-6).

Seniors Ben Keen and Perry Williams were downed in the top spot by Brandon Brom and Dylan Linklater (8-1).

Adrian then cruised to victory by capturing all six singles matches, despite a battle in second-singles by Wharton, who took the first set against Tanner Wilcox, 6-3, before ultimately falling in the next two (6-3, 10-5).

Match Two vs. Milwaukee School of Engineering

Otterbein began the match by sweeping all three matches in doubles play, going in order beginning with Keen and Williams' 8-3 defeat of MSOE's Tom Smith and Luke Nelson in first-doubles.

Krieger and Wharton followed with an 8-4 win over Brad Phoenix and Mason Sauder in second-doubles, before Sullivan and Vera teamed up for an 8-3 victory over Austin Campbell and Tyler Haanen in the third spot.

Krieger put the Cardinals up 4-0 with a commanding win over Campbell in fourth-singles (6-0, 6-1), before the Engineers tallied their first point of the match in first-singles as John Price defeated Williams (6-2, 7-5).

The Cardinals then won three-straight matches, starting with Wharton's three-set victory in third-singles over Rryan Runke (4-6, 6-2, 10-1). Keen then topped Smith in second-singles (6-4, 6-1), before freshman Riley Yost posted a win over Nelson in sixth-singles which included a 7-5 second-set tiebreak.

MSOE recorded its only other point of the match in fifth-singles as Haanen outlasted Vera in a hard-fought battle (6-4, 6-1).
