Men's Tennis Drops 6-3 Decision at Franciscan

CORAOPOLIS, Pa. - The Cardinal men's tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss to Franciscan on Friday at the Western Area YMCA, snapping its two-match winning streak.

Otterbein (4-7 overall) hosts Ohio Christian on Monday in its second to last non-conference match of the season before traveling to Muskingum the following Wednesday to open Ohio Athletic Conference play. First serve against OCU is set for 3 p.m.

Sophomores Derek Krieger and Tyler Wharton helped the Cards to their first victory of the match with an 8-6 win in second-doubles over the Barons' Richard Watson and Connor Jooste. Franciscan then claimed first and third-doubles to take a 2-1 advantage into singles play.

The Cardinals faced multiple battles in singles competition including a pair of tie-break sets, one in which freshman Riley Yost claimed in sixth-singles over Jack Galla by scores of 1-6, 6-4, 10-7.

Wharton dropped a close match in third-singles to David Freytag, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4, while senior Perry Williams was also outlasted in first-singles, 7-5, 6-2 to Jared Sulak. The Cardinals' other point came in senior Ben Keen's 6-4, 6-2 win over John Gallagher in second-singles.

Krieger and fellow sophomore Juan Vera fell in fourth and fifth-singles, respectively.
