WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Otterbein men's tennis team battled Baldwin Wallace in multiple matches before falling, 6-3, in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Sanders Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals (6-8 overall) saw its two-match winning streak come to an end and move to 1-1 in conference play with a road trip to Ohio Northern scheduled for next Tuesday. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m. in Ada, Ohio.
Baldwin Wallace claimed two of the first three points of the match after winning first and third doubles, despite battles in each loss by the Cards, while sophomores
Derek Krieger and
Tyler Wharton picked up the lone win for Otterbein with an 8-3 defeat of Nathan Katz and Jake Liebler.
Seniors
Ben Keen and
Perry Williams teamed up in the lead spot for the Cards but fell 8-4 to the Yellow Jackets' Dominic Polifrone and Matt Harris, while third doubles belonged to Brian Carano and Jake Elbin after they outlasted sophomore
Juan Vera and freshman
Logan Sullivan, 8-5.
The highlights for the Cardinals in singles competition came in the fourth and sixth spots, respectively, as Krieger continued his strong run with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Carano while freshman
Riley Yost enforced his solid inaugural campaign on Elbin with a 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 victory.
Otterbein also saw back-and-forth battles in third and fifth singles, respectively, as Wharton was topped by Harris 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 and Vera, who took a 1-0 lead after one set, fell 6-7 (4-7), 6-0, 6-0. Keen and Williams also fell in each of their respective matches to round out the Cardinal scores.
