Men's Tennis Suffers 9-0 Loss at Second-Place Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Otterbein men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 loss at second-place Mount Union on Saturday afternoon to snap its four-match winning streak.

The Cardinals (10-9 overall) sit at 4-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play and are currently fourth in the league standings with a matchup against Heidelberg at home on Senior Day next Saturday at 1 p.m. The OAC Tournament begins on Tuesday, May 2 and lasts through Saturday, May 6.

Otterbein got down 3-0 after Mount Union swept all three doubles matches by scores of 8-4, before the Purple Raiders quickly added to their lead with convincing wins in 11 of their 12 sets in singles competition.

Sophomore Derek Krieger recorded the closest loss for the Cardinals in set one of third doubles against the Raiders' Jeff Williams, as he fell 7-5, 6-0, while also dropping his first doubles match in the two spot alongside doubles partner and classmate Tyler Wharton in their last 12 matches.

Seniors Perry Williams and Ben Keen were also downed in the top-two spots for the Cardinals to Mount Union's Rob Demarco and Jackson Schneider, respectively, while sophomore Juan Vera and freshman Riley Yost were defeated in fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Freshman Logan Sullivan rounded out the Cardinal competitors with a 7-2, 6-2 loss in sixth singles to Kyle Hicken.
