WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University recent graduates
Jenna D'Errico (Medina/Medina) and
Caleb Norton (Lima/Bath) were recognized with the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Clyde Lamb Awards Monday evening at the annual OAC Awards dinner in Columbus.
Now in its 19th year of existence, the Clyde A. Lamb Award is presented annually to the top male and female senior student-athlete from each of the ten OAC institutions. The recipient of the award must have participated for at least two years in an OAC-sponsored sport, have senior status, a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 and sportsmanlike conduct in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete and his or her institution.
An allied health major with a perfect 4.00 grade-point average, D'Errico has delivered a stellar pole vault career for the track and field program. She qualified for the NCAA Championships four times (twice indoor, twice outdoor), including a 12th-place finish at the indoor meet this past winter. She is scheduled to finish her career at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships next weekend in Geneva, Ohio.
Ranking second all-time at Otterbein, D'Errico is a four-time All-Ohio performer, three-time All-OAC honoree, two-year team captain and holds nine collegiate pole vault victories. She was the 2014 OAC Indoor champion and then followed by taking the crown at the 2015 All-Ohio Indoor meet.
D'Errico was just as consistent off the track, making the Dean's List every term and becoming a finalist for the NCAA Elite 90 Indoor Award (missed out on credit-hours tiebreak). She is a three-time Academic All-OAC selection, has been involved as the secretary for Otterbein's Health Professions Club, a tutor for the Academic Support Center and spent time as a Columbus Marathon volunteer.
Also an allied health major with a perfect 4.00 grade-point average, Norton evolved into one of the top baseball pitchers in the OAC and departs with a pair of all-conference awards, most recently earning second-team honors. He holds Otterbein records for single-season saves (9), single-season appearances (32), career saves (22) and career appearances (77).
Norton's 32 pitching appearances this spring lead the nation, while his nine saves are good enough to tie for sixth at the moment. The current OAC 'Scholar Athlete of the Month' for May, Norton was a key member of last year's OAC regular-season championship team and recently helped the program win its sixth OAC Tournament title. In addition, Norton also started 13 matches for the men's soccer team as a freshman.
Off the field, Norton has served as a Senator for the Student Government, test proctor at the Academic Support Center, "Best of Both Worlds" special needs trainer, Otterbein Animal Coalition volunteer, PR committee member for Westerville Hunger Heroes and holds cross-cultural experiences to Japan (2014) and Costa Rica (2016).
Norton and D'Errico made Otterbein the only OAC institution this year with both Clyde Lamb recipients at a 4.0 GPA. The duo will head to graduate school in the fall for physical therapy; D'Errico at Ohio State and Norton at Dayton.
