FINAL RESULTS
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein wrestling team dropped a tough Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup Tuesday evening in its first home dual of the season, finishing on the low end of a 38-11 contest against sixth-ranked Mount Union inside the Rike Center.
Mount Union, with four OAC regular-season titles and five runner-up finishes in the last decade, remains undefeated on the year at 6-0 overall and 2-0 within the league. Otterbein, meanwhile, drops to 4-5 this season and 1-1 against OAC schools.
The Cardinals opened the night strong in a national-caliber showdown at 125 pounds, which pitted No. 10-ranked
Jackson Lakso against No. 12-ranked Nolan Wochna from Mount Union. Wochna was a national qualifier last season at 133 before dropping down a class for this winter.
Lakso took a 2-0 lead behind an early takedown, and then stood on top 3-0 before Wochna tallied a pair of late points. The one-point margin would be just enough for Lakso, who improved to 13-0 this season.
Mount Union kicked into gear from that point, posting a technical fall in the next bout and then grabbing two forfeits at 141 and 149 lbs. Four more bonus-point victories would blow the match open, making the score 38-3 after an entertaining matchup from
Jarrod Setliff and Andrew Valenti in the 184 division.
Otterbein finished the night strong behind another pair of undefeated standouts, beginning with No. 22-ranked
Corbin Bunsold topping his opponent for a 14-3 major decision. Bunsold (12-0) jumped ahead early with a pair of near falls and held a 10-0 advantage by the end of round one.
The night culminated with another nationally-recognized battle in the 285/heavyweight bout, which featured No. 15-ranked
Drew Kasper for the Cardinals and No. 25 Grant Martin in the purple and white singlet.
The matchup was tied 4-4 early on following quick starts by both wrestlers, but Kasper eventually wore down Martin with a handful of points as the rounds progressed. He finished leading 13-6, and then collected a bonus point for riding time to tally a 14-6 major decision. Kasper now joins Lakso with a 13-0 record so far this year.
Otterbein will be back in action Saturday morning, ending the week at the Ohio Northern Invitational set to commence at 9 a.m.
