TIFFIN, Ohio – The Otterbein men's basketball team came up short in another road game Saturday afternoon, hanging tough in the second half before a late run allowed Heidelberg to pull away and win, 87-76, inside Seiberling Gymnasium.
Otterbein (2-6, 0-3 OAC) got off to a slow start offensively, making just a few shots over the first nine minutes as Heidelberg built a 17-7 lead by the 11:03 mark. The Student Princes used the three-ball to maintain a double-digit lead for most of the period, with a trifecta from Cardinal guard
Hunter Dennison in the closing seconds making the gap 37-28 entering halftime.
The Cards quickly trimmed the lead to just five, 48-43 and again at 50-45, early in the second half before the hosts bumped their cushion back to 12. Otterbein didn't waver and used a quick 12-3 run over the next three minutes to make it a one-possession contest, 62-59, with 9:00 on the clock.
Heidelberg (1-4, 1-1 OAC) regrouped with a timeout and scored a pair of quick buckets, but Otterbein hung close once again and trailed just 75-70 with 3:30 remaining. The host school eventually kicked into gear from that point, converting a timely layup and using a 12-4 scoring spurt to officially put the game away.
