ERIE, Pa. – The Otterbein men's tennis team came up short in a 5-4 loss at Penn St.-Behrend on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.

The Cardinals, now 5-4 on the season, turn their attention to Ohio Athletic Conference play beginning next Saturday with a trip to Mount Union. First serve for the match is set for 1 p.m. in Alliance, Ohio.

PSU-Behrend got off to a fast start by claiming two-of-three doubles matches with wins in the top-two spots, while sophomore Riley Yost and freshman Jamie Price kept Otterbein in the match with a solid 8-2 victory over Michael Duckett and Noah Colvin in third doubles.

The Cardinals then saw wins in second, fifth and sixth singles but that proved to be the only other points in the match they would capture, beginning with junior Tyler Wharton's triumph in second singles (6-3, 6-1).

Yost posted the lone shutout of the match for the Cardinals in fifth singles (6-0, 6-0), while Jared Deel rounded out their competitors after outlasting Duckett in the sixth spot (6-4, 6-3).

Otterbein battled in each of the remaining three matches, including a three-set loss for freshman Connor Radune to PSU-Behrend's Yanique Apgar (6-3, 5-7, 6-4).

Yost and junior Juan Vera conclude the first half of spring season with a team-best seven wins in singles competition, while Radune and Deel currently have four wins between first and second doubles to lead the pack.
