ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's tennis squad battled Mount Union in several matches before ultimately falling by a final score of 7-2 in its Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener on the road late Monday afternoon.
The Cardinals, now standing at 6-5 overall, will look to rebound Wednesday with a home matchup against Ohio Wesleyan. Scheduled time for first serve is set for 4:30 p.m.
Mount Union (7-2, 1-0 OAC) came into the match with wins in each of its last two outings and made it three-straight after taking two of three in doubles to begin the contest.
The lone win for Otterbein in doubles play came in the third spot from sophomore Riley Rost and freshman
Jamie Price, who outlasted Jacob Labonte and Antonio Massucci in a wild competition (9-7).
With the Raiders leading 2-1, they quickly extended their lead and took control of the match by winning five of the six flights of singles, with junior
Tyler Wharton giving the Cards their second point with a three-set victory as the No. 2 over Zach Teffner (5-7, 6-4, 6-1).

Jared Deel also played to a trio of sets in their respective matches, Deel's coming in an extended battle which ended 6-3, 6-7, 11-9.

Connor Radune, who was named OAC 'Player of the Week' earlier this afternoon, was defeated by Mount Union's Robert Cross in the top spot (6-3, 6-3). Price and Yost also dropped their matches in straight sets to round out the scorebook for the Cards.
