COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Cardinal men's tennis team split a pair of matches this weekend, falling 9-0 at first-place John Carroll on Saturday, before topping Capital 5-4 on Sunday in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup.

Otterbein (10-7 overall) is now 4-2 in conference play and currently sits in fourth-place in the standings with the six-team OAC Tournament on tap for May 1-5.

The Cards have two pivotal contests this week that will decide where they finish among the conference standings, beginning with third-place Ohio Northern at home Monday at 3:30 p.m. Otterbein then travels to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday for its regular-season finale.

Match One vs. John Carroll

Doubles play went favorably for the Blue Streaks as they jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage, the closest margin for the Cardinals coming in a slim 8-5 loss in the top spot for freshmen Connor Radune and Jared Deel.

Radune also came up just short in a 6-4, 6-4 loss to JCU's Gustavo Garcia in first singles, while the other two close matches came in three-set tiebreak losses for junior Juan Vera and sophomore Riley Yost in the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

Match Two vs. Capital

Otterbein rebounded quite nicely at cross-town rival Capital, taking two of the three matches in doubles play including wins from Deel and Radune as the No. 1 (8-4) and Yost and freshman Jamie Price as the No. 3 (8-6).

Juniors Derek Krieger and Tyler Wharton narrowly dropped their match in second doubles, falling 8-5 to the Crusaders' Graeme Green and John Roberts.

A 2-1 lead for the Cards propelled them into singles competition, with Wharton defeating C.J. Martin in the second spot in a thrilling 6-1, 1-6, 7-5 three-set victory.

Price added the fourth point with a 6-0, 6-3 defeat of Hunter Walter as the No. 5, before a 6-3, 6-0 win for Yost over Ben Heiland in the sixth spot gave Otterbein enough to clinch the match.
