AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – A pair of Cardinals brought home weekly honors from the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Monday afternoon after recent standout performances in their respective sports, announced by the league office after league-wide voting.
Senior
Ashlyn Leon (Dublin/Scioto) earned OAC 'Defensive Player of the Week' in volleyball for a second time this season, while freshman running back
Jordan Bost-Floyd (Cleveland/James Ford Rhodes) captured OAC 'Offensive Player of the Week' in football for the first time in his young career.
Leon made headlines as the volleyball team swept a pair of league matches, beginning with a thrilling five-set win at No. 10-ranked Ohio Northern on Tuesday night. She had a match and season-high 29 digs on the back line, surpassing 2,000 for her career in the process. Leon became just the third player in Otterbein history to surpass 2K and currently stands just a dozen shy of breaking into the top-10 in the conference record books.
The week culminated Saturday afternoon on her Senior Day, as the Cardinals swept cross-town Capital in three sets with Leon adding another 16 digs. Otterbein finished the regular season 23-5 overall, 7-2 against the league, and clinched a quarterfinal home match in the upcoming OAC Tournament. The Cards will host sixth-seeded Mount Union on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
Bost-Floyd stole the show Saturday afternoon on the football field, spearheading Otterbein to a 33-18 victory across town at rival Capital. It marked the fourth-straight victory for the Cards inside Bernlohr Stadium.
Making just his second career start, Bost-Floyd ran wild with season-highs of 17 carries for 146 yards and three touchdowns. His scoring plays came from five, six and 10 yards out, including two of those in the second half to give the Cards some necessary breathing room. He did not have a negative rush all day.
JBF also added four catches for 21 yards from the backfield as Otterbein out-gained Capital 415-268, and also finished with a 25-11 edge in first downs.
The Cardinals, now with consecutive wins in the past two weeks, will head to Marietta this coming weekend for their final road game of the fall season. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
