MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Otterbein men's tennis team defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene 7-2 Tuesday afternoon, as four different players recorded their first victory of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Riley Yost picked up his first victory in the second singles slot by a final score of 6-0, 6-0. Jamie Price improved to 4-0 this season by defeating Anthony Howard 6-3, 6-0.
- Juan Vera and Jared Deel each claimed their first victories this season from the fourth and fifth singles position. Vera swept his opponent 6-0, 6-0, as Deel came away with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
- Daniel Bishoff and Price earned the lone doubles victory by an 8-4 final. Otterbein earned two forfeit victories, as Mount Vernon Nazarene did not have enough players to compete.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Yost earned his first career victory in the second singles slot, as two players earned their first wins of the year.
- Otterbein improves to 9-1 on the year, which is the best start to a season in over a decade. The Cardinals now have six matches this season where the opponent has scored two points or less.
- The Cardinals as a unit, currently own a 51-18 overall mark which is good for a .739 winning percentage. In doubles, Otterbein is 23-9 and have a .719 win mark.
