Alliance, Ohio – The Otterbein men's tennis team earned its seventh-straight victory by defeating Mount Union 7-2 Wednesday afternoon, as the Cardinals claim their first Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) win. Otterbein improves to 10-1 overall and 1-0 in the league, while the Purple Raiders fall to 6-4 on the year and 0-1 in the OAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Cardinals once again showed off their depth by winning the third, fourth, fifth and sixth singles in convincing fashion. Otterbein also swept through the doubles portion, with the most impressive victory coming from Jared Deel and Brandon Wall in the first doubles slot.
- After playing yesterday against Mount Vernon Nazarene, Tyler Wharton and Riley Yost went back to their normal single position and each earned a convincing victory.
- Tom Ohler earned two points for Otterbein by winning 6-4, 6-2 in fourth singles, as the freshman also won 8-3 in doubles with Derek Krieger. The senior Krieger won 6-3, 6-3 in fifth singles.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Cardinals flipped the script this season, as Mount Union won 7-2 last season. This was the first time in three years that Otterbein came away with a victory against Mount Union, as Wharton and Krieger were both freshmen at the time.
- As a team, Otterbein is a perfect 11-0 in sixth singles and 19-3 in fifth and fourth singles.
- Ohler is the first Cardinals this season to eclipse 10 wins in singles and currently owns a 17-3 overall combined record.
