ORLANDO, Fla – The Otterbein men's golf team defeated Ohio Northern in both the morning and afternoon sessions during its spring break to claim a 12 1/2 – 5 1/2 victory over the Polar Bears.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the morning session, Otterbein won 4 1/2 – 1 1/2 as the teams went with a match play style, as
Coury Rogers and
Ryan Karapas scored the half point for the Cardinals.
John Peck and
Zach Thomson teamed up to get Otterbein its first point of the morning, while
Tyler Dunfee and
Josh Jankauskas were paired together and added to the Cardinal lead.
The sophomore duo of
Spencer Gifford and
Lucas Fox scored the third point, as
Sam Marty and
Trevor Deere capped off the morning session with a victory.
The Cardinals showed off their depth by winning 8-4 in the afternoon session, as each member played as an individual.
Logan Reed and
Spencer Jordan bounced back in the second match after dropping their team outing. Jankauskas, Fox, Deere, and Gifford all picked up a second win in the afternoon session helping the Cardinals start the spring season off on the right foot.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"It was fun to get back out on the grass and compete against a conference opponent," said head coach
Brian Booher. "We were able to get comfortable with the competition element as time went on."
"Overall the competition went well and we showed the depth of our program," Booher continued. "Every player walked away knowing what they needed to improve on for us to be where we want to be at the end of the year."

The Cardinals will be back in action on March 23-24 as the team will play Mount St. Joseph at Yankee Trace Golf Course.
