Men's golf competes at Crossroads Cup

NASHPORT, Ohio – Competing against a lot of Division II talent, the Otterbein University men's golf team placed 10th at the Crossroads Cup, hosted by Ashland University. The Cardinals totaled a three round score of 929, improving with every round (314, 310, 305). 

Freshman Drew Werling paced Otterbein, tying for 30th overall. He carded a 78 in the first two rounds before shooting a season-low 73 (+1) in the final round. Werling totaled four birdies and an eagle on the 10th hole in his final round to climb the leaderboard. Clay Bruning was next for Otterbein, turning in an 80 in the first round before a 75 in the final two rounds. 

Parker Steffanni had a solid tournament for the Cardinals. He shot a 75 in the first round and followed with rounds of 78 and 77. The sophomore recorded at least two birdies in each round. Senior Nick McMullen shot an 81 in the first round, following with an 80 in each of the final two rounds. Aidan Johnson rounded out the "A" squad with rounds of 84, 79 and 81.

Otterbein's "B" team placed 15th, with a three round score of 978. After a 343 in the first round, Otterbein chipped away at the deficit, shooting a 315 in round two and finished with a 320 in the final round. 

Junior Noah Huard led the team, cutting strokes in each round. Huard started the tournament with an 85, but answered with shooting an 81 in the second round and a 78 in the final round. Ty Gilbert followed with scores of 90, 76 and 79. The round of 76 ties a season-low for the freshman. 

Nate McMullen turned in performances of 86, 73, 84, while Nolan Kniese rounded out the team with an 82, 84 and 85. Owen Sedgwick opened the tournament with a 90 and carded an 86 in the second round. The freshman concluded the event with a 79 in Tuesday's final round. 

Sophomore Hudson Able competed as an individual for the Cardinals. He sandwiched his season low score of 78 between rounds of 84 and 80 in the first and third round.

Otterbein returns to action this weekend at the OAC Fall Preview, hosted at River Greens Golf Course.
