SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Otterbein men's tennis team dropped its first nonconference match since spring break, as the Cardinals lost 7-2 against Wittenberg. The Cardinals now fall to 15-3 overall, while Wittenberg improves to 11-8 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wittenberg jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, as the Tigers won all three doubles matches. Derek Krieger and Tom Ohler had the closest match, but came away on the wrong side of an 8-6 decision.
- Tyler Wharton earned his 14th win of the year, as the senior defeated Joe Patton 7-5, 7-5. Riley Yost won at sixth singles 6-3, 6-2 and remains perfect on the season with a 16-0 mark.
- Brandon Wall and Connor Radune both had strong performances at first and second singles, but were unable to earn a point. Ohler dropped his first set 7-6 (7-4) and then lost 6-4 in the second set.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- This was only the third time in the last decade that the Cardinals and Tigers play each other, as Wittenberg has now won all three matches.
- Wharton picked up his 55th career victory, as the senior has won 15 matches this season and has won seven of his past 10 matches. Yost continues to dominate at sixth singles, as the Cardinals are a perfect 18-0 from the sixth singles slot.
- Otterbein currently has a .726 winning percentage at singles and a .750 percentage at doubles.
- The Cardinals were 6-0 on the road this season, before dropping their first away match.
