Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 BEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein baseball team suffered an unfortunate doubleheader sweep in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Saturday on the road, falling by scores of 7-2 and xx-x at host and league-leader Baldwin Wallace.
The Cardinals, now 17-15 overall, drop to an even 7-7 in the conference standings and now sit on the outside looking in at the top-four grouping. Otterbein will have crucial doubleheader against John Carroll and Marietta next week in attempt to move back up and qualify for the OAC Tournament.

Game 1: (7-2 Loss)
BW took the early lead on a passed ball in the first inning, and then extended the gap with three runs in the fourth. Otterbein tried to stay close with a sac-fly RBI from
Tyler Thompson in the fourth and a solo homer from
Tim Snyder in the sixth, leaving the deficit at 5-2.
The Yellow Jackets responded with insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, and that margin was good enough for the pitching combination of Nick Smith and Jack Raines.
Otterbein starter
Johnny Putnam went five innings and
Cody Goletz tossed three scoreless frames of relief to keep the team within striking distance. The Cardinal offense had just three hits in the contest.

Game 2: (13-1 Loss)
The rematch unfortunately got out of hand quickly, as the Cards only trailed 1-0 midway through the third inning before Baldwin Wallace erupted for 11 runs.
Otterbein got on the board in the fourth inning with an RBI-double from
Connor Brett, but the damage would be done as BW cruised to the sweep.
Five Yellow Jackets recorded multi-hit games while ace Danny Cody allowed just the one run over seven quality innings. He and fellow pitcher Michael Hubert tallied a whopping 16 strikeouts.
Luke Barber hit 2 for 3 offensively in the Otterbein lineup.
