Successful Senior Day for Men's Tennis


WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's tennis team honored its four seniors Saturday afternoon before the Cardinals bested Baldwin Wallace 6-3, as Otterbein has earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament.  

The Cardinals now own a 17-3 overall record and a 6-1 conference mark, while Baldwin Wallace falls to 15-5 on the year and 3-4 in the league. Otterbein has earned a bye into the semifinals, as BW will play in the 4/5 matchup against Mount Union.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Otterbein once again earned two points in the doubles portion, as Connor Radune and Tyler Wharton won 8-3 at second doubles. The duo of Tom Ohler and Derek Krieger earned the second point of the afternoon with an 8-1 victory from the third doubles slot.
  • Radune led the Cardinals in individual play, as the sophomore won 6-2, 6-3 at second singles.
  • The Cardinals depth once again shined, as Otterbein won the fourth, fifth and sixth singles. Ohler defeated Michael Benotti 6-4, 6-2 at fourth singles, as Krieger cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at fifth singles.
  • Sophomore Riley Yost continued his perfect season by winning 6-3, 6-1 at sixth singles.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The 17 victories this season is the most for the Cardinals since 2013-14 when the team went 19-5 and qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
  • Yost is a perfect 18-0 this season, with 17 of his victories coming from the sixth singles position. Krieger continues to impress at fifth singles with a 15-3 record this year.
  • This is the first time in program history the Cardinals have earned a first-round bye at the OAC Tournament.
UP NEXT:
The Cardinals will be the No. 2 seed in the OAC Tournament and face either Ohio Northern or Marietta, as Otterbein bested ONU 5-4 and beat Marietta 9-0.
