FINAL RESULTS
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – It was a Super Saturday for the No. 22-ranked Otterbein men's cross country team on the running surface, as the Cardinals kicked into gear and claimed a fourth-place finish in a loaded field at Augustana's Inter-Regional Invitational.
Otterbein finished one point out of third in the field of 24 schools, competing in the 8K showdown at Saukie Golf Course. The Cardinals only came in behind No. 1-ranked Wartburg, No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer and No. 12 North Central, a typical powerhouse.
Furthermore, another well-rounded effort was good enough to beat the likes of No. 10 Wash-U, No. 14 Chicago, No. 30 Calvin and other reputable programs.
Cal Yackin (24:39) and
Bill Daily (24:50) led the charge once again, finishing 13th and 19th respectively in the deep field of 232 total individuals.
Gage Beireis was on their heels en route to crossing in 25th place, covering the course in 24:55.
John Nice cleaned up nice and his result had a nice ring to it, running 25:00 flat to slip into the top 30 and enjoy a nice day.
Jason Mehalic (sorry, we don't have as many idioms for your last name) also delivered a strong effort just one second and a few spots back in 34th.
Ryan Estes (40th) and
Nathan Craft (56th) helped punctuate the Otterbein lineup that seems to be finding its form. Plenty of other Cardinals also laced up and gained experience at the meet.
The Cardinals are defending Ohio Athletic Conference champions from back in the fall of 2019. They will now look to defend that title against No. 7-ranked John Carroll and others come October 30 down in Wilmington.
