WESTERVILLE, Ohio – It took more than a full calendar year, but the Otterbein men's tennis team was finally able to hit the court once again Saturday afternoon on campus.
Unfortunately, despite battling in their debut, the Cardinals dropped an 8-1 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) dual match to league power John Carroll in front of a nice home crowd. The Blue Streaks, who recently opened their season with a shutout at Marietta, have won the past three OAC championships.
Otterbein was fairly competitive in the double sections, notably
Connor Radune and
Boban Mihajlov falling 8-6 in the third spot. The other two courts finished by margins of 8-3 and 8-4, respectively.
The standout result for Otterbein came at No. 1 singles, as senior
Brandon Wall impressively delivered a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over JCU's top gun Andy Siciliano. Freshman
Jake McDivitt, making his Cardinal debut, had some really nice moments despite a narrow 6-4, 6-4 loss in the third position.
Tom Ohler lost a third-set tiebreak at No. 4 singles, eking out the first set before his opponent rebounded.
Jared Deel, who played alongside Wall in first doubles, racked up a few games before taking a 6-3, 6-3 defeat.
Otterbein will have over a week to continue working out the kinks of a long offseason, ultimately returning to action come April 7 at Ohio Northern.
