FINAL RESULTS
ADA, Ohio – A strong victory was in store for the Otterbein men's tennis team Wednesday afternoon on the road, as the Cardinals bounced back nicely with a 6-3 triumph at host Ohio Northern.
The Cards, back in action following a tough opening weekend against league power John Carroll, got themselves into the win column by winning a pair of doubles matches and carrying that momentum into the singles portion. Ohio Northern falls to 2-1 with its first loss of the spring.
Brandon Wall and
Jamie Price narrowly dropped a battle in the top doubles showdown, enduring an 8-7 defeat after not being able to catch up in the tiebreak. However,
Tom Ohler and
Jake McDivitt flipped the script at their No. 2 position, claiming a 7-2 decision in the tiebreak for a much-needed point.
Connor Radune and
Jared Deel posted a dominant 8-0 shutout on the third court, and Otterbein parlayed that energy into winning four of six individual contests…
Wall, a recent OAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month back in the fall, delivered a notable triumph by taking down former conference Player of the Year Vinh Thai (6-4, 6-2) at the top of the lineup. Radune played his way to a workmanlike W just below, overcoming a setback in the second frame to ultimately win 6-3 in the winner-take-all third.
ONU won courts three and six, but Ohler and McDivitt remained in the win column throughout by claiming their singles affairs. Both won in straight sets… Ohler fairly comfortably while McDivitt, a freshman, emerged in a first-set tiebreak before cruising in the second.
Otterbein stays on the road to finish out the week, traveling over to cross-town rival Capital for some afternoon action at 1 p.m.
