WESTERVILLE, Ohio – After a long winter break, the Otterbein track and field program(s) officially launched the 2022 indoor season by hosting the Snow Globe Open across Saturday afternoon inside the Clements Recreation Center.
Although no spectators were allowed, plenty of action was widespread throughout the facility by a decent group of participating schools. Among the highlights on both sides were:
MEN:
- Bill Daily won the mile in 4:12.34, edging out a handful of unattached competitors to finish less than one second off Chase Hampton's school record. He also returned a bit later to win the 1,000 meters in a nice breeze workout of 2:30, placing him fifth all-time at Otterbein.
- Cwinn Febus (8.29) and Mike Rennette (8.35) got loose by taking 1-2 in the 60 hurdles. Febus, back for a sixth year of eligibility this coming spring, ran unattached.
- John Nice crossed first in the 5K, running 15:01 for the eight-fastest result in program history.
- A trio of Cardinals took second place in their events; Logan Price (13.61m) in the weight throw, Cincere Engram (1:11) in the 500 meters and Landon Burns (1.81m) in the high jump.
- Newcomers Kalani Booker (400) and Jamez Lynch (triple jump) chalked up third-place efforts while Jaden Watkins claimed fourth in the 3K.
- Engram, Booker, Lynch and Alan Hatfield culminated the day with a fourth-place combination in the 4x4 relay.
WOMEN:
- Standout Gracie Dennison catapulted her senior year with three victories. She won the 60 hurdles in 8.98, just off her school record of 8.93 seconds. Dennison then won the 60-meter dash in 7.92, and narrowly missed a PR in the 200 by sprinting the curve in 26.44.
- A healthy Coree Gifford returned after battling injuries last spring, winning the 500 meters in a 1:24 time.
- Promising newcomer Ravyn Goodson began her journey, taking runner-up in the shot put (10.08m) and then sixth in the weight throw.
- Other second-place finishers came in the form of: Lydia Baumgartner (27.00) behind Dennison in the 200, Emma Klosterman (5.00m) in the high jump and Cassidy Shaver (2:25) in the 800 meters.
- Gifford, Brooke Caldwell, Brooke Hamilton and Manaka Yamauchi ended the day by teaming for third in the 4x4.
STAY TUNED:
The Cardinals will remain put and continue working out kinks inside the Clements Center, hosting the Otterbein Invitational next Saturday (1/22) on campus.
