FINAL RESULTS
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Otterbein concluded indoor track and field season Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Championships, making a return at the JDL Fast Track after an unfortunate two-year absence within the pandemic.
The Cardinals sent three standouts to the national scene, all of which beat their incoming seed despite not cracking onto the All-American podium.
Junior
Cal Yackin began Friday's running action in the mile, running a 4:10.04 and breaking Chase Hampton's school record (4:11.47) by more than a full second. That was the seventh-fastest time in the prelims… but unfortunately did not advance to the final as Yackin ran in a blistering heat.
The top-seven times occurred in that heat alone and, per the format, the top-four finishers in each heat plus the next two fastest times overall move on.
Senior
Gracie Dennison followed in prelims of the 60-meter hurdles, clearing the straightaway in 8.91 to ultimately settle for 13th nationally. She missed the top-eight cutoff for finals by 0.13 seconds, but improved on her ranking coming into the meet.
Sophomore
Emma Klosterman rounded out the Otterbein action come Saturday afternoon in the high jump. She cleared 1.56 meters and 1.61 meters (5-3 ¼) before coming up empty all three times at the next height of 5-4 ½.
Klosterman ended tied for 13th nationally, and now has a pair of top-15 efforts in her young career after taking ninth last spring at NCAA Outdoor.
The Cardinals will now turn their focus to spring season, which is slated to begin next week at UNC Charlotte for the 49er Classic.
