FINAL RESULTS
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's tennis group battled admirably on multiple courts, but the visiting Ohio Northern Polar Bears found a way to snag key points at key times and pull away for an 8-1 decision Tuesday afternoon in league action.
The Cardinals, remaining at home for the second time in 48 hours, dropped a trio of very competitive doubles matches to begin the showdown…
Jake McDivitt, reigning OAC Player of the Week, and
Tom Ohler lost an 8-4 matchup on the top line.
Gabriel Atteh and
Jamie Price were even closer, falling by a narrow margin of 8-6…
The tightest match occurred at No. 3 doubles, where the tandem of
Will Newberry and
Dylan Shook went to a breaker. Unfortunately, the ONU squad across the net emerged 6-3 in extra points and took the match 8-7.
The Polar Bears then cleaned up on courts 4-5-6 to clinch the match, but a prideful Otterbein squad continued battling on the others. Price snagged the lone Cardinal point in the team column, flip-flopping the initial two sets before emerging in a 10-8 breaker…
Atteh came up short against ONU journeyman Vinh Thai on the second line, leaving the top court as the only match left…
McDivitt lost an absolutely wild contest with Andrew Cochran (ONU) at No. 1 singles to culminate the action. He won the first set after an 8-6 tiebreaker, but dropped the second frame in a 7-2 breaker. The ensuing race to 10 would fall in favor of Cochran, who narrowly escaped by an 10-8 tally.
Otterbein will travel up to Baldwin Wallace on Good Friday before taking on Marietta and Mount Union after that.
