WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's tennis team punctuated the regular season with a dominant victory Saturday on campus, warming up outside but playing Mount Union inside the Clements Recreation Center after rain entered the area.
Either way, the Cardinals turned in a 9-0 shutout to officially clinch the third seed in next week's Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament. Otterbein will (ironically enough) welcome the Purple Raiders back to campus for a 3/6 matchup on Tuesday afternoon.
Prior to first serve, head coach
Tyler Stephen and the program recognized the senior duo of
Tom Ohler and
Jamie Price for their ongoing contributions.
Otterbein claimed all three doubles matchups rather easily. Ohler and
Jake McDivitt (8-3) worked the longest on the top line while Price/
Gabriel Atteh (8-1) and
Dylan Shook/
Armando DiMichaelangelo (8-1) followed in comfortable fashion.
All six Cardinals won their individual showdowns in straight numbers, with only one set going past a 6-2 margin. Shook and
Will Newberry cruised 6-0, 6-0 while Ohler just missed the shutout party at 6-1, 6-0.
Stay tuned for more details/coverage next week regarding the OAC Tournament for the Cardinals, who now stand with an 8-7 overall record and 4-2 against league opponents.
