FINAL RESULTS
ALLIANCE, Ohio – With more frustrating (and inconsistent) weather hanging around the northeast region, the Otterbein track and field team ventured up to Mount Union for the annual John Homon Open on a rare Thursday evening, bumped up from the originally scheduled Saturday afternoon.
The event, not scored from a team standpoint, welcomed a strong chunk of Division II schools along with Youngstown State and a handful of Division III squads mixed in.
The Cardinals took a condensed squad into the meet, and churned out some decent results amidst the chilly conditions around Mount Union Stadium:
- Gracie Dennison won the 110 hurdles in 14.84, edging out Payton Knoch of nearby Walsh University.
- Mackenzie Davis (4:51.48) took third of 33 runners in the 1,500 meters.
- Coree Gifford (1:00.97) ran a season-best in the 400 meters, just missing an overall PR by .009 seconds.
- Madi Brokaw cleared 2.96 meters in the pole vault, tying for fifth in the field of a dozen.
- Cincere Engram ran 50.86 to settle exactly midway through the field of 24 competitors in the one-lap 400.
- The men's 800 and 1,500 was almost an Otterbein inter-squad scrimmage, with double-digit Cardinals taking part in each event. Gage Beireis ran 2:02 and 4:05, respectively, to lead the group in both races. His latter time ranked sixth of a whopping 53 individuals.
- Cwinn Febus went 14.71 in the 110 hurdles while running mate Mike Rennette, a returning All-American in the event, crossed just behind at 15.13. It marked his first running action in quite some time after sustaining an injury during the winter.
- Landon Burns cleared 1.85 meters in the high jump, just over six feet.
- The hammer and javelin throws will reportedly take place on Friday.
MOVING FORWARD:
- The Cardinals will have a rare weekend "off" before steadily ramping back up for the All-Ohio Championships come Saturday, April 16 at Ohio Wesleyan. Other team members could end up traveling to the Tiffin Track Carnival the day before at Heidelberg.
