WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The 2023 track and field season officially got underway for Otterbein inside the Clements/Rike Center across Saturday action, as the team posted a handful of notable results to get the calendar rolling.
The meet, which ended up being more of a dual showdown with Heidelberg, was not scored from a team standpoint but did allow plenty of Cardinals to establish early marks this winter season.
TOP 5 HIGHLIGHTS:
- Promising newcomer Peyton Proffitt made a splash in the pole vault, clearing 12-6 ¾ (3.83 meters) for the second-best result in program history. The height will very likely be a national qualifying mark.
Â
- All-American distance standout Cal Yackin, a 3x national qualifier, hit a new personal best/school record in the 3,000 meters by covering the laps in 8:18.37. It marks a new school record after eclipsing Hunter Moore's time (8:18.60) from two years back.
Â
- Ravyn Goodson delivered a new personal record in the weight throw, chucking 39-10 and change to rank eighth in program history. Despite any result, she remains one of the nicest people on campus.
Â
- Freshman Payne Ratliff secured his first collegiate victory in the mile with a PR of 4:27-ish, good enough to outlast Brett Reed (Heidelberg) by almost five seconds.
Â
- Senior Landon Burns and newcomer Devon Bellomy both cleared 6-4 ¼ (1.94 meters) in the high jump, as Burns established a new college best after years of growth.

LOOKING AHEAD:
- The Cardinals will remain at home next weekend to host the Otterbein Invitational, welcoming more schools for competition come Saturday morning.
