Cardinals Continue January Slate with Otterbein Invitational

FINAL RESULTS

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinals remained at home for another week in January to begin the 2023 track and field calendar, playing host for the Otterbein Invitational around the Clements Recreation Center.

The meet, not scored from a team standpoint, welcomed the like of Baldwin Wallace, Transylvania, Shawnee State, Washington & Jefferson, Rio Grande, Ohio Christian and others competing unattached.

NOTABLE HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Ravyn Goodson achieved a new PR in the shot put, taking second overall with a distance at 36-11. She settled only behind former Kent State competitor Grace Frye, competing unattached.

  • Transfer Khalil Jones landed in a three-way tie for second in the long jump after clearing 6.70 meters (21-11 ¾), just barely out of first place.

  • Emma Klosterman bested a field of 15 in the long jump.

  • Cal Yackin ran 4:09 to reset his own school record in the mile, topping the field of 56 by almost seven seconds. The reigning OAC Athlete of the Week then picked up another victory in the 1,000 meters with a 2:31 effort.

  • Nathan Craft slipped onto the program's Top-10 list in the 5K, comfortably winning a small event (with familiar faces) in a time of 15:03.

  • Freshmen Jay Figgins (1:57) and Payne Ratliff (1:58) both cracked two minutes in the 800 meters, landing 1-2 in a field of 24.

  • Alyssa Mattis and Angela Maio finished 6-7 in the mile, with Mattis running 5:39 in the field of 24 competitors.

  • Lydia Baumgartner continued settling into her winter season by running 8.18 to win the 60-meter dash, and later took second of 20-ish runners in the 200 meters.

  • Ian Clevinger scampered 8:37 to grab fourth of 28 runners in the 3K near the end of action. Three other teammates joined him in the Top 10.

The Cardinals will head to the Muskingum Invitational and conclude the month, followed by the annual Joe Banks Invite at Ohio Northern to begin February.
