BOSTON, Mass. – A handful of track and field student-athletes took part in Last Chance Meets this weekend in attempt to improve season marks, with hopes of potentially qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships next week down in Alabama.
Khalil Jones opened the weekend at Ohio Northern's "Polar Bear Qualifier" on Friday, flying 7.08 meters (23-2 ¾) in the long jump to win the event comfortably. It marked the fourth-best distance in program history but still leaves him 27th nationally, likely just on the outside looking in for nationals.
Vinny Zeren ran 7.08 in the 60-meter dash and also went 6.60 meters in the long jump.
The distance medley relay of
Bill Daily,
Carson Jones,
Jay Figgins and
Cal Yackin combined for a 10:00 flat at Tufts Final Qualifying in the Boston area, good enough for the second-best time in school history. The joint effort rests only behind the 9:57 run by Dilley, Forney, Thompson and Hampton back in 2019.
John Nice gave it one last push in the 5K, running 14:34 to land fourth of 14 individuals. He remains roughly 35th nationally.
Otterbein will most likely be sending Peyton Proffitt (pole vault) and Yackin (mile or 3K) to the national meet next weekend in Birmingham. Stay tuned for official updates!
