MASON, Ohio – Both top-seeded Otterbein Tennis teams cruised into their respective Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament championships on Friday afternoon, downing opponents in the semifinal round at Lindner Family Tennis Center.
The men's side opened the day with a 5-1 victory against Baldwin Wallace, getting one step closer to the potential NCAA Championships. They will now take on second seed Ohio Northern in Sunday's title clash at 10 a.m.
The women's group steamrolled Capital 5-0 while leading all other courts at the time of finish. The Cards are striving to make a return trip to the NCAA's and will have that opportunity against Ohio Northern as well tomorrow, with first serve at 2 p.m.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:
The Cardinals took courts two and three of doubles play, behind
Joshua Mammen/
Jake McDivitt winning 8-2 and
Boban Mihajlov/
Dylan Shook prevailing 8-5.
McDivitt then polished off Trey Kernan (BW) by counts of 6-2, 6-1 for the initial singles point, and
Jamie Price did the same on the line below 6-2, 6-2.
Brandon Wall clinched the match up above 6-3, 6-2 against Yellow Jacket ace Matt McGee. Mammen was also leading his court at time of conclusion.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:
It was all one sided again as the Cardinals bounced the Comets in just 82 minutes… sweeping the opening doubles action vis scores of 8-4, 8-0 and 8-3 down the line.
Rachelle Moses grabbed the next point in singles play with a near perfect 6-0, 6-1 triumph in the middle of the lineup.
Cassady Shough did the exact same right behind in shutout fashion of 6-0, 6-0.
All other Cardinals were leading their matches upon clinching, including
Erin Storrer and
Lillia Walter just one game away from their finishing touches.
