NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – It was a tough second day for Otterbein at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships, as the Cardinals would unfortunately miss the cut in a deep field of 43 teams all converging on the national event at Keene Trace.
Otterbein, sitting 20th after the first round, dropped a few spots to ultimately rest 23rd as the tournament was sliced to the Top 18 schools at the midway point. The Cards were just seven shots off the cut line.
Senior
Sam Lahmon (+3) charged late to keep things interesting in his final collegiate round, just missing the individual qualifying/cutoff by one spot and finishing T-51 in the field of 221.
TUESDAY RECAP:
Otterbein teed off late morning with a shotgun start around the turn, and were forced to work across three weather delays in what became a lengthy afternoon.
Multiple Cardinals settled in on their back nine after a bumpy start, with Lahmon (74) seeing an eight-hole stretch at one-under par.
Colin Bibler (75) also closed strong by playing his last eight in two-under.
Ian Johnston started with a tough double bogey on his first hole (seventh), but stayed the course to post four birdies over his round of 74 to match Lahmon for the team lead.
Coury Rogers shot 78 while
Carter Woodward, playing in his first NCAA's, carded 83.

WEDNESDAY RECAP:
The team was a few spots back from making the cut but had work to do, and just couldn't quite get there after another difficult start to their second-round trips. All five players shot in the 70's… but opponents manufactured just a little better scores to slightly push Otterbein down the board a few spots.
Woodward bounced back nicely with a one-over par 73 in a stretch that saw 16 pars, a birdie and a double. Lahmon carded two birdies over his last four holes to rest +3 on the individual board and give himself a chance at moving on…
Johnston and Rogers also made multiple birdies, but also gave shots back during the trip in shoot 76 and 78, respectively. BIibler shot 79 to complete the lineup.

COMMENTS:
"Getting this program back here (where it belongs) was our main goal, and achieving that to end my career on the biggest stage was how I wanted to go out. I've had so many great teammates over the years that I've learned a lot from. With that, I cam into the week playing some good golf and just wanted to have fun with the experience. I could not be more excited for this program. With the OAC's best coach, no doubt they are going to be hard to beat next year." –

"It was our mission from day one to get back on this stage… and this team put in the work all year long with a mix of talented young players and veteran captains. I think we were doubted by some during the fall but it was just a matter of time before it gelled. Sam and Coury will be sorely missed because they are two of the best leaders I've had the privilege to coach, but I also couldn't be more excited about what they leave behind and the future of our program." –
