Otterbein Completes Initial Phase of Weight Room Upgrades

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Through a generous donation from the "O" Club, the Otterbein University Athletic Department has been able to proceed through an initial renovation phase of its weight room in the Rike Center.

The gift, in excess of $20,000, allowed the purchase of new branded equipment (Rogue, York, Stray Dog) such as dumbbells, platforms, Olympic bumper weights, a sled, two hex bars and other regulated plates.

Phase II of this project is expected to include cable machines, new benches and additional free-weight items. Specific branding initiatives, design enhancements and space utilization will all continue into the near future.

The entire project was originally brought forward by football student-athletes Chase Carpenter, Carson Vaulx, Jarrett Marshall and Keaton Snyder, among others that joined the push.

"I just wanted to help make a difference as I was approaching the end of my time in college, trying to leave it better for the next group," said Carpenter, who recently graduated after majoring in allied health. "A lot of people that are students, athletes, staff, faculty and so on spend countless hours in there. I'm sure everyone wants to feel like their place is attractive and exciting. We are very appreciative of the support and hope this is beneficial to the greater population of Otterbein, as a whole."

Established in 1955, the Otterbein "O" Club strives to aid and assist Otterbein University's athletic program by contributing to capital campaigns and special projects.
