NORTON, Ohio - The men's and women's cross country teams started off their season competing at the Tommy Evans Invitational on Friday evening up at Silver Creek Metro Parkin the Akron area. Mixed into both sides of competition were multiple NCAA Division I and other fellow Ohio Athletic Conference schools. Times and spots among the Cardinals were being fought for and battles between one another showed in the race.
The men's group placed 9th of 17 teams, in the middle of the pack of other friendly conference teams, with the women finishing 14th of 16 teams.
On the Men's Side:
- Setting the pace for the Cardinals, senior John Nice crossed the finish line in 22nd place among a field of 271 runners by clocking his first-ever career 6K time at 19:04. In close succession, Cameron Christopher secured the 48th position with a time of 19:32.22, while Payne Ratliff and Chase Johnson followed closely in 52nd and 53rd place, respectively. Garrett Miller and Ian Clevinger rounded out Otterbein's top six, finishing 71st and 74th, separated by just five seconds in their race times.
On the Women's Side:
- Freshman Katherine Wilt, making her college debut, claimed the top position for Otterbein by finishing 75th in the 6K event with a time of 19:55.6. Following closely behind was Angela Maio in 98th place, clocking in at 20:28.1. Finishing 1-2-3 were Alyssa Mattis, Josey Johnson, and Ragen Harting, respectively, to round out the leading five Cardinal runners.

The Cardinals will return to the course on Saturday, September 9th, as they head east across town to Granville to compete in the NCAC Preview event hosted by Denison University.
