Football drops Rhine River Cup game to Heidelberg on Senior Day

Box Score WESTERVILLE — The Otterbein football team fell 55-7 to Ohio Athletic Conference foe Heidelberg in the 33rd Rhine River Cup on Saturday afternoon. Saturday also marked Senior Day for the Cardinals, as the team recognized Justin Bartlett, Armani Burton, Randy Cochran Jr., Earlonte Cousins, Cael Dent, Gavin Edwards, Vincent Fisher, Declan Jewitt, Alex Pataky and Landen Pettet during a ceremony prior to the game.

Otterbein Stat Leaders
  • Redshirt senior quarterback Hayden Lehmann completed 14 of 32 passes for 209 yards with one touchdown.

  • Junior Owen Menge led the Otterbein receivers with five catches for 94 yards and a touchdown.

Game Summary
  • Heidelberg opened the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown run to go up 7-0 with 11:49 left in the first quarter.
  • The Cardinals responded with their lone scoring drive of the game. The seven-play drive began at the Otterbein 10-yard line and was highlighted by a 14-yard pass to Menge and a 17-yard pass to sophomore Vincent Berardi and was capped by a 40-yard touchdown pass from Lehmann to Menge to tie the score at 7-7 following the PAT from sophomore Braylon Balandra 7:56 left in the opening period.
  • The Student Princes added a 4-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to take a 14-7 edge into the second.

Notables
  • Heidelberg leads the Rhine River Cup series by a 18-14-1 margin and has won eight straight meetings with Otterbein. The first collegiate football game played in Germany was between Otterbein and Heidelberg in Frankfurt in 1992. That game ended in a 7-7 tie, and the teams have been competing for the Rhine River Cup ever since.
  • Bartlett's career totals include 228 tackles, 41 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks. He ranks fourth all-time at Otterbein in tackles for loss and is four sacks shy of moving into fifth all-time in that category.
  • Freshman Colton Weisbrod is the reigning OAC Defensive Player of the Week after posting nine total tackles and an interception in the Cardinals' 39-10 win over Capital last Saturday. He finished with nine total tackles on Saturday against Heidelberg.
