Honkpo shines as Men's Indoor Track and Field begins season at Findlay Oiler Open

FINDLAY — Sophomore Richmond Honkpo led the Otterbein men's indoor track and field team with standout performances as the Cardinals opened their season at the Findlay Oiler Opener on Friday.

The Basics
  • Venue: Malcolm Athletic Center - Findlay, Ohio
  • The meet included the heptathlon, with four events contested on Thursday and the remaining three on Friday with all the other track and field events. Otterbein did not have anyone competing in the heptathlon.
  • Otterbein scored 33 points and finished fifth in the 12-team field.
  • Findlay won the team title with 153.5 points. Windsor was second with 96.5 points, and Ohio Northern was third with 55.5 points.

Otterbein's Top Performers
  • Triple Jump: Sophomore Abreaham Belcher posted a mark of 13.11 meters on his final attempt to place fifth. Sophomore Malvin Long finished seventh with a mark of 12.37 meters, and Honkpo was eighth with a mark of 12.36 meters. Sophomore Jack Craigo was 11th with a mark of 11.70 meters.
  • Long Jump: Honkpo added another podium finish with a leap of 7.13 meters, earning third place. Freshman Joab Bockstoce made an impressive debut with a solid 6.71-meter jump for fifth place, while fellow freshman Jaret Harting rounded out the group, finishing tied for sixth with a distance of 6.63 meters. Freshman Wyatt Slack was 12th with a mark of 5.83 meters.
  • High Jump:  Bockstoce tied for fifth place with a height of 1.89 meters. He shared the position with Evan Kreais and Trey Boblitt from Findlay, as well as Douye Kenebai from Windsor. Sophomore Gabe Scialdone tied for ninth with a mark of 1.84 meters.
  • Pole Vault: Sophomore Gavin Zember-Stiffler and junior Joshua Miller both cleared 3.88 meters, earning a tie for sixth place.
  • 60-Meter Hurdles: Craigo returned to the track and clocked a time of 9.23 seconds in the finals, placing sixth overall.
  • 400 Meters: Freshman Ian Clark finished sixth with a time of 52.36 seconds. Freshman Jack Van Fossen and sophomores Cam Smart and Ares Pasion were 11th, 12th and 13th, respectively, with times of 54.21, 54.42 and 55.74 seconds.
  • 200 Meters: Clark finished 12th with a time of 23.43 seconds.
