WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's tennis group soared back into the win column on Saturday afternoon inside the Clements Recreation Center, shutting out Penn State Behrend in a
9-0 final outcome.
The Cardinals most recently dropped a tough
8-1 decision at the College of Wooster on Super Bowl Sunday, where
Dylan Shook and
Nate Stevens earned a double points before the Scots took all other courts.
Shook was nearly a double winner against Wooster as his sixth singles match went the full distance, where he won the opening set (6-2) before his opponent countered with a 6-3 win. He then came up just barely short in a 10-8 tiebreaker.
But after the middle of the week off, the Cardinals flew back in a big way by immediately sweeping all three doubles courts… including two by perfect 8-0 counts.
Those shutouts above came from
Joshua Mammen and
Jake Chilcote in the middle spot, along with Shook and
Will Newberry in the third section.
Max Fickas and
Neil Reddy had to work a bit harder for their W on the top line but still emerged 8-5.
All Cardinals won their singles contests in two sets, with
Nate Stevens having to dig a little deep and fight off his counterpart at fifth singles. But a 7-5 outcome in the second set helped preserve a nice shutout.
Otterbein now has another 11 days off before heading to Oberlin for a Wednesday afternoon match at 4:30 p.m.
