Otterbein Claims All-Ohio Title with All-Around Efforts

FINAL RESULTS

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's track and field team won the Division III All-Ohio Championships across Friday and Saturday up at Ohio Wesleyan, using an all-around effort to work past eventual runner-up Case Western Reserve by 41 points.

The Cards totaled 138.5 altogether spanning the 20 events, with the Spartans registering 97.5 in second to narrowly hold off Oberlin.

NOTABLE HIGHLIGHTS:
  • The Cardinals racked up a whopping 21 points on Friday night behind four in the steeplechase, with Cameron Christopher (9:38) and Garrett Miller (9:53)in second and third respectively to secure medals. Cody Moore missed the podium by just a second in fourth place, while Ben Stanhope corralled another two points in seventh.
     
  • Payne Ratliff won a title in the 10K later in the night, covering the lengthy trip of laps in 32:00 even. He was five seconds ahead of All-Ohio teammate Chase Jackson in the runner-up spot, while David Hartman secured two other points in seventh.
     
  • Jay Figgins became an All-Ohio champion in the 1500 meters, climbing atop the podium after going around in 3:58.79 to hold off Wooster's Drew Robertson by a tenth of a second!
     
  • Izaac Swope continued blossoming in his first All-Ohio outdoor, hitting the 110-meter hurdle podium after taking third. He covered the trip in 15.21 seconds.
     
  • Nick Agerter claimed runner-up in the pole vault by clearing 14-6 (4.43m) and change, as Wooster's Dylan Garretson outlasted the field by more than a foot. Joshua Miller placed fifth for the
     
  • A combined 13 points were racked up in the long jump between Richmond Honkpo (second) and Khalil Jones (fourth), with Honkpo resting only behind Marietta All-American Addison Painter. Honkpo and Malvin Long also scored in the triple jump during the meet.
     
  • Otterbein chalked up a ridiculous eight runners in the Top 12 of the 5K near the end of Saturday, with John Nice (15:04) earning podium honors and Christopher settling one spot out. Miller, Ratliff, Jackson and others followed behind in the crew.
     
  • Gavin Kelly missed All-Oho status by 0.16 seconds in the 800-meter run midway through Saturday, maneuvering the two laps in 1:56 and change.
     
  • Newcomer Tyler Gross also made a nice impression in his first showing, taking fifth in the discus behind a throw of 130 feet (39.63m) even.
     
  • The 4x1 relay earned a couple points in seventh place with the group of Brittman, Christian Barker, Long and Honkpo. Brittman also later crossed fifth individually in the grueling 400 hurdles at 55.55 seconds, and was part of the 4x4 relay with Barker, Figgins and Jonny Powers that took seventh.

The Cardinals will finally get to compete on campus with the annual (and long-awaited) Otterbein Twilight Meet next Friday evening, beginning in the mid-afternoon with field events and concluding under the lights!
