FINAL RESULTS
ADA, Ohio – The Otterbein men's tennis team absorbed it first conference loss of the season on Tuesday afternoon, finishing on the low end of a 7-2 result over at Ohio Northern.
The Cardinals fall back to 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while ONU moves to 4-0, including a 15-5 overall mark.
DOUBLES ACTION:
The day began with a trio of tandem showdowns, and the host Polar Bears walked away with a 2-1 lead at the break after securing the first/second courts.
Will Newberry and
Dylan Shook gathered a critical point (at the time) for Otterbein with a well-earned decision at 8-5.
Max Fickas and
Neil Reddy fell by the same competitive score on the top doubles line.
SINGLES PLAY:
Fickas delivered a gritty come-from-behind victory at No. 1 singles. He narrowly emerged 7-5 in the opening set but dropped a lopsided second frame, 1-6. But the ace shrugged that off nicely to claim a breaker 10-7 and remain undefeated in the league.
The Polar Bears took all other singles courts albeit
Will Newberry going the distance at his five spot, blanking his opponent (6-0) in the opener before falling 2-6, 3-6 in the next frames.
MOVING FORWARD:
The Cardinals will look to regroup and prep for two matches over the weekend, traveling up to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday afternoon (to continue OAC play) before a non-league matchup at nearby Denison come Sunday afternoon.
