Men's Track & Field Wins Twilight Meet on Campus

FINAL RESULTS

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – At long last, the Otterbein Track and Field program was able to compete on campus this outdoor season by hosting its annual Twilight Meet across a full Friday in/around Memorial Stadium.

The Cardinals would finish atop the list of 18 total teams represented in some fashion, scoring 89 to vault ahead of Mount Union and its 78.5 collective points. Otterbein hosted a nice rundown of varsity events and then some lighthearted/informal competitions to welcome back alums.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Richmond Honkpo continued doing what he does, and that's winning the long jump. This time around, he flew 23-4 (7.11m) to win by more than a foot and a half. That places him Top-20 nationally at the moment and ties for fifth on the Otterein all-time list. Teammate Khalil Jones, whose mark he tied in the program record books, was sixth after his best leap of 20-10 ¾.

  • A crazy deep 5K had 78 runners taking part across three heats well into the night. By the time it was all said and done, Chase Jackson stood on top as the victory after running 15:02.15 and edging Wade Spieth (Muskingum) at the wire. Jay Figgins was about 13 seconds back in seventh place while Payne Ratliff was ninth.

  • Just as they did at the All-Ohio, Garrett Miller and Cameron Christopher were near the front of the 3K steeplechase with another set of PR's. This time, it was Miller edging out Christopher to finish 2-3 as both ran in the 9:36 range.

  • Otterbein had three of the top six jumpers in the pole vault, led by the 2-3 combination of Joe Hill (4.48m, 14-8 ½) and Nick Agerter (4.38m, 14-4 ½). Joshua Miller landed sixth to give the Cards 17 points in the event.

  • Izaac Swope, behind a decent wind, delivered a 15.28 effort in the 110 hurdles to cross fourth. A pair of Division II competitors were ahead.

  • Early in the running portion, the meet enjoyed "Heather's Super Silly Steeplechase" inspired by former distance standout Heather Sandvik. There was also the Alumni Mile and Alumni 4x1 Relay to begin the evening, before the 1994-95 OAC Championship (and Hall of Fame) Cross Country team sponsored a 5K under the lights!

  • Shamar Brittman continued working on his stride in the 400-meter hurdles, running 56.18 to cross second in the field of 15.

  • AbreAham Belcher pushed forward nicely into the last few weeks of his inaugural season, taking third in the triple jump at 13.35 meters (43-9 ½). That was nearly two feet clear of fourth place, while Malvin Long grabbed sixth.

  • Jordan Blankson earned fifth in the shot put at 45-4 (13.82m), good enough to beat the majority of the 31-thrower field. He and Tyler Gross then also scored in the discus, with Gross slightly ahead in seventh after a toss of 130-5.

THE WEEKS AHEAD:
  • Otterbein has the Ashland Alumni Open on the schedule next week in a final preparation for the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted this year May 2-3 at Heidelberg.
