FINAL RESULTS
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – It was a quick meal for the Cardinals in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament quarterfinal action Tuesday afternoon on campus, blanking No. 6 seed Capital to skip into the semifinal round later this week.
Otterbein, seeded third in the league's postseason bracket, won five points rather handily to win for an eighth-straight time in the series. The Cards have now won via shutout five times in a row.
As a result, the Cardinals will now get another crank at second-seeded John Carroll come Friday afternoon in Ada.
The Comets defaulted at third doubles, leaving a pair of actual matches to take place atop the board. Otterbein blitzed the counterparts in those showdowns by winning 8-2 and 8-1.
Nikita Kitaev won by default at sixth singles and
Will Newberry ripped off a quick 6-0, 6-0 shutout just above to effectively seal the day.
Max Fickas,
Joshua Mammen,
Jake Chilcote and
Neil Reddy were all leading their matches comfortably at the time of stoppage.
Otterbein and JCU, getting set to play for the second time in a week, will square off come Friday afternoon at Ohio Northern (host, top seed) following the conclusion of the women's semifinals.
