Men's Indoor Track and Field wins 5-team Otterbein Invite

WESTERVILLE — The Otterbein men's indoor track and field team won the five-team Otterbein Invite on Saturday, scoring 255 points.

The Basics
  • Venue: Clements Recreation and Fitness Center and The Rike Center - Westerville, Ohio
  • Saturday's meet was Otterbein's first since opening its season at the Findlay Oiler Opener on Dec. 5-6.
  • Otterbein won the meet with 255 points. Ohio Dominican was second with 59 points, and Capital was third with 56 points.

Otterbein's Top Performers - Running Events
  • Men's 5000 Meters: Junior Payne Ratliff claimed first place with a standout time of 14:57.02. Junior Chase Jackson followed in fourth at 15:38.87, with junior Ian Clevinger in fifth at 16:04.82. Senior Cole Benishek secured sixth in 16:24.26, and senior Jacob Littler rounded out the group in seventh at 16:29.84.
  • Men's 60m Hurdles: Sophomore Izaac Swope dominated the hurdles, taking first place with a time of 8.52 seconds, while fellow sophomore Cameron Smart earned second in 8.90 seconds. 
  • Men's 800 Meters: Junior Jonny Powers crossed the line first with a time of 2:00.00. Freshman Henry Barnes took third in 2:03.33, followed by senior Dyaln Burns in fourth at 2:05.07. Junior Alec Spangler finished seventh in 2:07.43, and sophomore Ian Chapman secured eighth at 2:09.91.
  • Men's 200 Meters: Freshman Ian Clark sprinted to first place with a time of 23.50 seconds. Swope finished fifth at 23.98 seconds, and freshman Marquez Whitehead claimed seventh in 24.14 seconds. 
  • Men's 4x400m: The Otterbein "A" team runners of Clark, freshman Jack Van Fossen, sophomore Cameron Smart and Whitehead finished in first with a time of 3:38.58. Otterbein's "C" team of senior Dylan Burns, freshman Brannon Moser Jr., junior Jay Figgins and Barnes finished third in 3:52.88.
  • Men's 400 Meters: Clark earned second place with a time of 52.33 seconds. Whitehead took third in 54.07 seconds, while Van Fossen placed fourth at 54.17 seconds. Sophomore Ares Pasion finished seventh in 56.55 seconds, just ahead of Smart in eighth at 56.57 seconds.
  • Men's 1 Mile Run: Junior Gavin Kelly secured fifth place with a time of 4:35.14.
Otterbein's Top Performers - Field Events
  • Men's Long Jump: Freshman Jaret Harting secured first place with a leap of 6.88m on his final attempt, improving by just 1cm from his fifth jump of 6.87m. Fellow freshman Joab Bockstoce took fifth with a jump of 6.34m, while freshman Wyatt Slack placed sixth, reaching 5.93m. 
  • Men's Triple Jump: The Cardinals dominated the triple jump, claiming the top five spots. Sophomore Abreaham Belcher led the way with a first-place jump of 13.13m. Sophomore Malvin Long followed in second at 12.89m, junior Khalil Jones placed third with 12.75m, sophomore Jack Carigo earned fourth at 11.82m, and Slack rounded out the group with a mark of 10.43m. 
  • Men's High Jump: Bockstoce cleared 1.85m on his second attempt to secure second place, while sophomore Gabriel Scialdone also cleared 1.85m, earning third on his third attempt. 
  • Men's Weight Throw: Graduate student Brock Pemberton earned third place with a throw of 12.15m on his third attempt, while freshman Noah Gaydos followed closely in fourth with a final throw of 11.17m. 
  • Men's Pole Vault: Sophomore Joe Hill cleared 4.25m on his third and final attempt, finishing in third place. 
  • Men's Shot Put: Sophomore Jordan Blankson claimed third with a throw of 12.67m, while Gaydos landed in sixth with a mark of 11.84m.
Notables
  • Ratliff now ranks eighth all-time at Otterbein in the 5000 meters.
  • Swope is currently ranked sixth on the all-time list for the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.48 seconds achieved during the 2024 season. 
  • Harting now ranks 10th on Otterbein's all-time leaderboard for the long jump.
